Street Party .....

Hi Everyone

I hope you are all keeping well.  The A518 is blissfully quiet no blues and twos. Since moving to Haughton this is the first time it has been peaceful in my garden. Every cloud has a silver lining. Must enjoy it while I can.

Nice to have a lovely clean house, all the ironing done and a tidy garden.

When all this business is over think we should have a street party. Anyone agree with me agree?

Stay safe everyone.

Haughton Village Hall

All hirers of the Village Hall have now cancelled for the time being, which includes the Art Classes, Zumba, Pilates, and Line Dancing, due to the Covid-19 virus and the essential need for everyone to 'self-isolate'.

Some thoughts on home worship for Passion Sunday

Jesus set his face to Jerusalem and tribulation, trial and crucifixion. Yet "the light shines in
the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it".

Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ
Collect of the Day

Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us that what we do for the least of our brothers and
sisters we l also for you.
Give us the will to be the servant of others as you were the servant of all and Give up your
life for us,
But are alive today, and reign now and forevermore.

Read the Epistle from
Romans 8:6-11
and the Gospel (a bit long this one!) from
John 11:1-45

Offer some short prayers:

Lord, We pray for the Church at this time of uncertainty, especially for our own four
parishes of Bradley, Church Eaton, Derrington, and Haughton.
Pray for the housebound and for all who feel isolated and lonely.
Pray for your own families, especially those not able to visit you, or those you are not able
to visit.

Pray for our health services and for all who care for others.

Say the Lord's Prayer (perhaps when you wash your hands!)
Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name,
your kingdom comes, you will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
Amen.

May your Spirit give us all a sense of calmness and peace, and the Blessing of the Lord
Jesus Christ we with you always.

Best Kept Village - March Newsletter

Many of you will be wondering what is happening with all the uncertainty surrounding Coronavirus.

I received an E-Mail yesterday saying that the BKV County competition has been cancelled for this year.

However, the committee has got together with lots of handwashing and decided that a lot of what happens each year is designed to make the village look good and tidy. We are therefore going to continue with the litter picks, flower borders and garden, and hanging basket competitions. For increased safety, there will be disposable gloves if you need them and we recommend that you stay 6 feet apart if possible (that is normal for litter picking anyway)

Expect the dates to be released in the next week as we finally tweak everything.

This year we are also trying to grow most of our own plants from mini plug plants and as the plants grow I may be appealing for greenhouse space to grow some of them on.

We do of course have all your safety in mind but also realise if you are stuck at home you may be getting bored so this may give a little light exercise.

If you have any questions please E-Mail me

P.E. - For all those who are home schooling

It's been a difficult week for all, with all our clubs and shutting, and now hotels, bars, and cinemas, but everywhere there's is people offering help and adapting to our new situation.

Here's something I found online to help all those who find themselves at home homeschooling their children.

P.E. with Joe!

Please feel free to share this video, and please let me have anything else you think might help us through these times.

However, we can keep our clubs and organisations running online by posting information to each other.  Please send any information that you feel needs discussing, maybe something that would have been discussed at a cancelled meeting.  Other users can make comments, by clicking the comments button:

Some thoughts and ideas for worship at home on MOTHERING SUNDAY - From Geoffrey Smith

Grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Collect of the day
God of compassion, whose Son Jesus Christ, the child of Mary,
shared the life of a home in Nazareth and on the cross drew the whole human family to himself, strengthen us in our daily living that in joy and sorrow we may know the power of your presence to bind us all together and to heal,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Read the Epistle from
2 Corinthians   1.3-7
and the Gospel from
Luke 2.33-35.

Offer some short prayers:
Lord, you are steadfast in your love and infinite in your mercy,
I praise you for what you have done in my life ..... (think about some of the good things)

Thank you for the gift of Jesus who shows us what we are really like.

I confess my sins trusting in you to forgive me.
and l pray for
Those who will feel more isolated than most at this time.
For those needing to make decisions in order to care for others
For those concerned at not being able to attend a church service
and for any others matters on your mind ........

Holy  God, l remember that you have promised that nothing will separate us from your love, so,
help us in our sufferings and trials and strengthen us in our weakness through Jesus Christ our Lord.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you now and always.

Amen

The service will be held by the Bishop of Lichfield

Monday 16th March 2020
7.45pm to 9pm Bell Ringing Practice as normal please come along and join us.

Quarter Peal of the Week

Nationally church bells ring every day for one thing or another.  Bells get rung for so many different reasons, from national events, local events, church events or just for practice and fun.  Bell ringers generally don't need much of an excuse.

If we ring for something special we record it on a national register, these days it's all online, but before the internet, we would send details of our performances to our weekly magazine call 'The Ringing World'

Most days I browse through the performances, viewing what my fellow bell ringers have been doing, I suppose it's a bit like a footballer looking at the league tables.

Anyway, I thought if I spot a really interesting performance I will share it with you.

This week I've selected a quarter that has been rung at Stone in Staffordshire.  Stone has ten bells, and thanks to the hard work of Penkridge's tower Captain 'Jean Nixon' who has put together an 'all ladies band' they have rung a quarter peal of Plain Bob Caters.

Well done to all of them. As you can see there are plenty of '1st' in the quarter.  It was a fantastic achievement,  and let's hope there's plenty more to come.

This Week's Church Services

Sun 8th March 2020:
8.00am - Holy Communion
Sides Person: P. Atkin

There is no service at 11.15 am and so there is no ringing on Sunday 8th March.

The next ringing practice will be Monday 9th March from 7.45 until 9 pm.  If I can't tempt you with learning to ring, afterward we always have a warm welcome at the Shropshire Inn where we get rewarded with great chips and beer!
